GREENSBORO, NC — On March 22, 2022, as part of a widely-covered press conference with the City of Greensboro, it was announced that GuilfordWorks received $1,600,000 in federal funding. These allocations were approved by Congress, as proposed by Representative Kathy Manning’s (NC006) and Senator Thom Tillis’ offices.

Mayor Nancy Vaughn and Rep. Kathy Manning, and a host of representatives from various City of Greensboro departments addressed the media at the press conference.
GuilfordWorks plans to use the investment to scale existing workforce development services offered throughout Guilford County, inclusive of:
- Enhancing community-based programming within historically marginalized communities throughout Greensboro, High Point, and Guilford County;
- Promoting the inclusion of individuals within disadvantaged communities in the labor force through education, training, and work-based learning opportunities;
- Targeting employment and training services to unemployed and underemployed residents that have not been successful in obtaining meaningful/livable-waged employment throughout the COVID19 pandemic;
- Providing occupational awareness for high-waged, in-demand career opportunities within skilled trades industries;
- Enhancing entrepreneurial education, support, and participation through an integrated design, known as CEOh!; and
- Improving the advocacy and education of mental health issues by fostering emotional resiliency for our workforce through strategic partnerships.

GuilfordWorks continues to leverage partnerships with local human and social service agencies, community-based organizations, educational institutions, and business associations to ensure that our residents have the skills and support needed to participate in the formal economy in meaningful ways. This supported project will enhance employment and training services in some of our most disadvantaged communities while accelerating the economic well-being of hundreds of individuals and families throughout Guilford County.
